A soft or sagging roofline

Look at your roofline from across the street. It should be straight and level, ridge to eave. Any dip, wave, or sag means the wood decking or the rafters underneath have absorbed moisture long enough to lose structural integrity. This is the most serious sign on the list. A new surface laid over a deformed deck will fail too, so the deck has to come out with the shingles.

Repeat leaks in different locations
